  49. After installing the Microsoft Windows Printing System, it is recommended 
  50. to print an Alignment page to align the print head for optimum print 
  51. quality. On-Line help can guide you through the proper steps.

  55. 2. Supported Operating Systems
  56.  
  57. The Microsoft Windows Printing System is designed to work on
  58. Microsoft Windows 3.1x, Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.1x, and
  59. Microsoft Windows 95.

  63. 3. Disable bi-direction support for this printer: Windows 95
  64.  
  65. "Disable bi-directional support for this print" is a spool setting
  66. that is available in Windows 95.  This setting disables the ability 
  67. for this printer to communicate with the PC.  Selecting this setting 
  68. will cause your printer to function improperly with Windows 95.  
  69. To determine if this option is selected, use the following procedure:
  70.  
  71.  1. Click on the "Start" button.
  72.  2. Select the "Settings" menu item.
  73.  3. Click on the "Printers" menu item.
  74.  4. Right Click on the Canon BJC-620 printer icon.
  75.  5. Click on the "Properties" menu item.
  76.  6. Select the "Details" tab.
  77.  7. Press the "Spool Settings..." button.
  78.  8. Verify "Enable bi-directional support for this printer" is selected.
  79.  9. Close all open dialog boxes.

  83. 4. Multiple Printers on a single port: Windows 3.1x and Windows 95
  84.  
  85. Some printers are designed to work alone on a given printer port.  
  86. If you are having difficulty printing to the Canon BJC-620 printer, 
  87. redirecting the other printers from the same port may solve this problem.  
  88.  
  89. Directions to redirect printers in Windows 3.1x:
  90.  
  91.  1. Double-Click on the "Control Panel" icon.
  92.  2. Double-Click on the "Printers" icon.
  93.  3. Select a printer that is on the same port as the Canon BJC-620.
  94.  4. Press the "Connect" button.
  95.  5. Select a different port from the one that is selected, or select "File:".
  96.  6. Press OK.
  97.  7. Repeat 3-6 until no other printers are on the same port as the 
  98.     Canon BJC-620.
  99.  8. Close all dialogs and exit Control Panel.

  101. Directions to redirect printers in Windows 95:
  102.  
  103.  1. Click on the "Start" button.
  104.  2. Select the "Settings" menu item.
  105.  3. Click on the "Printers" menu item.
  106.  4. Right Click on the Canon BJC-620 printer icon.
  107.  5. Click on the "Properties" menu item.
  108.  6. Select the "Details" tab and note the port name under 
  109.     "Print to the following Port:."
  110.  7. Press the Cancel button.
  111.  8. Repeat steps 4-6 for the other printers that you have in the 
  112.     "Printers" folder.  If any of these printers are on the same port 
  113.     as the Canon BJC-620, press the down arrow next to the port name and 
  114.     select "File: (Creates a file on disk)" for that printer.  Then press OK.

  118. 5. Add Printer: Windows 95
  119.  
  120. The Canon BJC-620 printer cannot be installed on Windows 95 using the Add 
  121. Printer icon in the "Printers" folder.  Run the installation program that 
  122. came on the disks that came with the printer to install this printer onto 
  123. Windows 95.

  127. 6. DOS Printing: Windows 95
  128.  
  129. There are some DOS applications that will show an error message when you 
  130. try to print to the BJC-620 from the application.  In these cases, simply 
  131. select the retry option, and you should be able to print.

  135. 7. Swapping Printers and Ports: Windows 95
  136.  
  137. If you switch your BJC-620 and an addition printer from one port to 
  138. another on your computer, you should exit and restart Windows 95 once 
  139. you have completed redirecting your printer drivers to the new ports.

  143. 8. Printing Com #10 Envelopes
  144.  
  145. When printing on COM #10 envelopes with the BJC-620 printer, the paper 
  146. guide is placed all the way to the left. Depending on the size and shape 
  147. of your printer cable interface connector, the paper guide may touch it. 
  148. This may cause the envelopes to misfeed.  Contact your Canon representative 
  149. for information on a printer cable that will not cause this interference.

  153. 9. Microsoft AutoMap Road Atlas: Windows 3.1x
  154.  
  155. If you are not getting the text to print on the maps you try to print,
  156. follow the steps below: 
  157.  
  158.  1. Select the "Help" menu.
  159.  2. Select the "About Road Atlas..." menu item.
  160.  3. With the "About Microsoft Automap Road Atlas" dialog up, hold down
  161.     the shift key and push the "System Info..." button. Release the shift key.
  162.  4. With the "Technical Settings" dialog box open, select the 
  163.     "Multiple-printing" setting in the "Masked Text Out" group in the lower
  164.     left-hand corner of the dialog box.
  165.  5. Press the "Ok" button.  (Now you are done.)
  166.

  169. 10. PageMaker 5.0: Windows 3.1x
  170.  
  171. PageMaker 5.0 should only be printed from in Windows 3.1x with the Print 
  172. Manager running.  There are some difficulties that you may encounter if 
  173. try to print with the Print Manager disabled.  To determine if Print 
  174. Manager is enabled, use the following procedure:
  175.  
  176.  1. Double-Click on the "Control Panel" icon.
  177.  2. Double-Click on the "Printers" icon.
  178.  3. Make sure that "Use Print Manager" is checked in the lower left-hand 
  179.     corner.
  180.  4. Close all dialogs and exit Control Panel.

  184. 11. Word Perfect Presentation 3.0
  185.  
  186. 180x180 dpi printing does not work well with Word Perfect Presentation. 
  187. Use 360x360 dpi or 720x720 dpi with this application to produce the
  188. best print outs of your documents.

  192. 12. Lantastic
  193.  
  194. The Windows Printing System will install and print correctly on a machine 
  195. with Lantastic 6.0 installed.  However, Lantastic does not support sharing
  196. Windows Printing System 1.8 printers.

  200. 13. Installing over another Windows Printing System
  201.  
  202. If you have any other Windows Printing System installed, please remove
  203. them prior to installing the BJC-620 Windows Printing System.

  207. 14. HP Vectra Computers
  208.  
  209. If you change the BIOS settings on an HP Vectra computer, it is possible 
  210. for the HP Vectra Computer printer port to stop working 
  211. with the BJC-620 Windows Printing System software.  If this occurs, 
  212. shutting off the computer, and turning it back on should clear up the
  213. problem.

  217. 15. Microsoft Word 6.0: Envelopes
  218.  
  219. To ensure that your envelopes are printed correctly in Microsoft Word 6.0 
  220. for Windows, follow these steps:
  221.  
  222. 1. Select the "Tools" menu.
  223. 2. Select the "Envelopes and Labels..." menu item.
  224. 3. Click on the "Feed" button in the lower right hand corner.
  225. 4. In "Feed Method," select the left most envelope.
  226. 5. Click on the OK button.
  227. 6. Enter your "Delivery Address."
  228. 7. Enter your "Return Address."
  229. 8. Press the "Print" button.

  233. 16. Setting the number of copies
  234.  
  235. When printing a document, there are two places that you can set the 
  236. number of copies: in the application print dialog box, and the print setup 
  237. dialog box. Some applications use one of the settings, and some use the
  238. other.  If you are getting unexpected numbers of copies, check the settings
  239. in both locations.
